I ordered this vest for my 12-year-old daughter who has ichthyosis and does not sweat. She likes that the vest is stylish. The vest is also more comfortable than other models because it uses a larger number of smaller ice packs, which makes it fit better.
I have only had a Flex Vest for a couple weeks and have used it only a few times so far. But I have been pleasantly surprised by how well it works for me. I am surely an unusual case, but some of my experience my apply to others. The reason I bought the vest is because I have “port” in my upper left chest area. This is a device implanted under my skin so I can hook up an IV on a nightly basis. A needle and catheter passes from the port “inside” through my skin to the “outside.” You can imagine all sorts of potential problems with this, but the one that matters in this case is that keeping the entry site sterile and dry is essential. Sweating in that area is bad. So being outside in hot or doing strenuous exercise is a problem for me. This is where a cooling vest comes in handy. There are many cooling vests available, but the Flex Vest seemed to be the only one that had the right combination of features for me. It gets just cold enough (not too cold), it fits easily under a shirt or jacket, it looks ok worn as a regular vest, it's relatively light-weight, etc. But also, most importantly, the placement of the pockets for the cold-packs allows me to NOT put a cold pack over the area where my port is, because that area is very sensitive to pressure.
It's not perfect, but without having something custom-made, I don’t think I’m going to get any closer. This vest will allow me to be outside in summer for a couple hours at a time, and that’s a big deal. Besides all of the above, the Flex Vest seems to be well made and comfortable to wear. So despite the hefty cost, it was worth it for me. Only time will tell if it holds up.
This is my second cool vest from Glacier Tek. My first was a Santa editions standard vest in red and white which worked great but the new Flex vest works even better. I am professional Santa and wear the vest under my full wool Santa suit. I am not sure how I could perform without these vests. They keep me comfortable throughout the whole day. Thank you, Glacier TeK.
I bought this for a friend with MS. This is the second vest I have bought for her. Her comment to me: "It's so soft and so much lighter than the original." Thank you, Glacier Tek, for a wonderful product that helps those who have to stay cool because of their health.
